Abstract: Voltage Controlled Oscillator is a predominant
block in VCO-based sigma-delta analog to digital
converter. A seven-stage hybrid VCO is designed to
generate a high frequency of oscillation, full voltage swing,
at low power consumption. The frequency of oscillation
achieved for seven-stage hybrid VCO is 2.05 GHz with a
low power dissipation of 144μW and output voltage swing
of 1.15 V. The output noise for Hybrid VCO at 1MHz of
offset frequency is 492nV/sqrt(Hz). It is pertinent to
mention here that to justify the performance, robustness,
scalability, and reliability worst-case analysis is considered
and corner variations are performed with 500 runs of Monte
Carlo simulation. The proposed hybrid VCO is designed
and implemented using a cadence virtuoso platform of
0.09μm technology for a supply of 1.2V.
